Elastomeric material tend to age in time as they are exposed to high temperatures, even at normal ambient temperatures. Rubber for instance, after a few years loses its characteristics. This is called thermal aging. It is not practical to wait 20 years to determine the aged characteristics of a material, Thermal aging can be performed to simulate long periods of time within a short period accelerated test. Thermodyne Engineering Ltd. has the capability in performing such tests and simulate many years of thermal aging in a few hours. Thermally aged material may be susceptible to fire much easier than new material. They can also malfunction after a few years. Therefore, knowing or predicting their characteristics ahead of time could be very important. |
